The HBCU COUNCIL of Shiloh Baptist Church (WDC) has been serving the Greater DMV for 20 years.  Delivering scholarships, workshops for parents and  guardians, free practice college entrance tests for students, school supply drives for elementary schools and  sharing the significance of HBCUs in America.  We would love for you to take advantage of what we have to offer, assist us in the delivery of our services or support us with a financial contribution.

The Passing of the HBCU Council President - Mr. John Otis Harris, Jr.

It is with profound grief and sadness that we, The HBCU Council of Shiloh Baptist Church (WDC),
announce the passing of our leader, friend, and brother, President John Otis Harris, Jr. on December 5, 2022.

The HBCU Council will update you with details as they become available. At this time, we are asking for prayers to be extended to the Harris family; his Virginia State University family; his Prince George’s County Public School colleagues and students; his fraternal brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.; and the Shiloh Baptist Church of Washington, DC community as they mourn the loss their dedicated and stalwart member. 

Most importantly, we, the members of his beloved HBCU Council, must keep each other lifted in prayer as we endeavor to carry on his legacy and example of unwavering support for our institutions.

The HBCU Council of Shiloh Baptist Church is thrilled to invite you to join us for our Annual HBCU Sunday Celebration on Sunday, February 23, 2025, beginning at 9:55 a.m. EST at Shiloh Baptist Church, located at 1500 Ninth Street NW, Washington, DC.

HBCU Sunday is a cherished tradition that celebrates the excellence, legacy, and impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This year's worship service will feature an inspiring message from our Guest PreacherReverend Elijah McDavidIIISenior Pastor of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church (Minneapolis, MN), and powerful musical selections from the J. Otis Harris, Jr. HBCU Memorial Choir, directed by Chester L. Burke, Jr.

Founded in 2003 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Wallace Charles Smith (Pastor Emeritus), the HBCU Council of Shiloh Baptist Church is dedicated to promoting awareness of HBCUs, providing scholarships, and fostering academic and personal growth opportunities. Together, we celebrate the legacy of HBCUs and their continued contributions to our communities.

We encourage all HBCU alumni, supporters, and friends to join us to celebrate the institutions that have shaped our leaders and communities. We look forward to worshiping and celebrating with you as we honor the enduring legacy of HBCUs.
